Finally the day has come, IT’S BACK! – my immediate reaction basically when seeing the cult Galliano-era print at Maria Grazia Chiuri’s debut collection for Dior. The next thing I knew, I was all over the internet to hunt down the perfect one-of-a-kind vintage piece, and ended up with this amazing clutch from the 80s on Esty (you guessed it – my favourite place for indie jewellery designers and vintage hunt). All this time I have been wondering why the house has no intention of bringing back such iconic design that is, as I see it, a big part of the brand’s DNA and history. And turned out women really know best about women. Salute to all the female creative directors. It was officially a full-on declare of ‘bitch I’m back’ when more new versions of the monogram bag were introduced in the last Spring 2017 show. If Backstreet Boys was the best musical memory for us Millennials growing up in the 90s, then the Dior letter print was certainly on the same cult level to those into fashion (just ask Carrie Bradshaw). Or should I bring up the saddle bag? The one that us fashion early boomers wish we could afford at the time, or that our mom would only be as ‘cool’ as Regina George’s mom to favour her teenage daughter’s puppy love for designer bags (Well, I just assume she was the permissive type on that front). Good news is, it is never too late to reinvest an old teenage dream. It is really no better time than now to reemerge those canvas bags from the good ‘blue’ days, and bring the glory back to them (only if my mom would have foreseen this day coming). But that is just fashion for you after all – what goes around comes around. I suggest you to get on Ebay now before all the good ones are snapped up. Last time I checked there are not many left.
